Thorne Harcourt

This body of work emphasizes exploration. As a passionate film/analog photographer, Thorne Harcourt has always been interested in hands-on, alternative processes of creating art.

Growing up between Colorado and California (USA), he was influenced by diverse landscapes, from mountain ranch duties to beachy art and surf culture. Thorne believes that handmade prints, crafted through a series of chemical reactions, breathe a sense of authenticity that those from a computer often lack. As an artist, surfer, athlete, and traveler, he is constantly inspired by the action, beauty, and fleeting moments that make life so exceptional. His goal is to tell stories and evoke emotions through my photographs and art, encouraging viewers to pause, reflect, and feel that epic moment: timeless and sublime.

With my make-shift darkroom and adaptations to this harsh climate, I created fifteen pieces here in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.  Cyanotype printing marks an exploration into new methods for me. It’s a process that highlights the raw, handmade quality of my work. Visible in the bold chemical brush strokes and the unique one-of-a-kind nature of each piece. In a time taken over by reproducibility, AI, and fleeting digital content, I see in these prints a reminder of human craftsmanship: A tangible and authentic creation that invites human respect and connection.
